Kashrut is religious law, not a health trend. Hauchi Kay plans kosher event catering with certified sourcing, meat and dairy separation, and honest limits: we partner with your mashgiach — we do not certify kitchens.
Chain of custody from purchase to plate
The first conversation is with the host and, where required, their mashgiach or kosher agency. Observance varies. Their authority is the final word.
Permitted foods
Meat only from certain animals, slaughtered by a trained shochet. Pork and shellfish are never permitted.
Meat and dairy apart
Separate utensils, pots and surfaces. Mixing serving spoons between a meat dish and a dairy dish can compromise the event.
Pareve
Fruit, vegetables, grains and fish with fins and scales can sit with meat or dairy if they have not touched either.
Certification
Packaged foods, wines and processed ingredients typically need a recognised hechsher.
Holidays
Passover and other periods add stricter rules. Plan early with the client’s authority.
Supervision
Some events need a mashgiach throughout prep and service. Others need certified ingredients served respectfully.
Certified supply in East Africa takes lead time
What is hard locally
Certified meat, poultry, wine and many packaged goods. Produce and pareve staples are easier. Extra lead time on any quote that depends on imports. Realistic windows, not optimistic ones.
Approved lists
If your authority names brands or suppliers, we buy only from that list. We flag sourcing gaps early rather than assume certification we cannot verify.
Weddings, simhahs and mixed corporate lists
Jewish weddings and celebrations
Brit milah, bar and bat mitzvah, other simhahs. We follow the family and their authority — we do not decide religious observance for them.
Corporate with a few kosher guests
Individually sealed, pre-certified meals from a verified supplier, beside standard catering for the rest of the room.
Larger kosher groups
Planned like a private kosher event: sourcing, supplier verification, and coordination with a designated authority.
Starting points, not a fixed offering
- Herb roast chicken with roasted root vegetables
- Grilled beef skewers with tomato and onion relish
- Slow braised lamb with rice and a vegetable pareve side
- Vegetable quiche or frittata with no meat stock or fat
- Certified kosher cheese with fruit and crackers
- Creamy pasta for a dairy reception or luncheon
- Salads with citrus or olive oil dressing
- Grilled fish when species and prep are confirmed with the authority
- Fruit, sorbets and desserts without dairy or meat
- Separate or koshered surfaces for meat and dairy
- Dedicated pots, pans and serving dishes, or prepared to the authority’s standard
- No overlapping meat and dairy prep on the same equipment
- Clear labels. Mashgiach on site when required
What Hauchi Kay can and cannot provide
Plan, source, serve, coordinate
Menus with the client and their authority. Certified suppliers. Meat and dairy practices they specify. Mashgiach access and scheduling. Pre-packaged certified meals for mixed lists. Full hospitality.
Certify or rule on Jewish law
We do not issue kosher certification. We do not decide what meets kashrut. Our kitchen is not permanently kosher certified unless the client’s authority verifies arrangements for that event. Short-notice certified stock is not guaranteed.
Staff are briefed on meat, dairy and pareve for that event, and follow mashgiach or host instructions without improvisation.
Book weddings several months ahead
Certified meat, poultry and wine, plus mashgiach diaries, need extra lead time versus a standard function. Pre-packed corporate meals can move faster.
Settle these before the tasting
Level of observance, and whether an authority is appointed.
On-site mashgiach, and for which parts of the process.
How many guests need kosher meals; allergies layered on the same plate.
Venue kitchen vs dedicated equipment. Date, budget, realistic sourcing timeline.
Kosher catering planning
Quotes follow guest count, certified ingredient cost, supervision and venue prep. Bring numbers, authority, observance level, date and budget to the first call.
Sealed certified meals
Practical for a few kosher guests at a conference, launch or staff day.
Family simhah
Menu, sourcing and service built with the family’s nominated authority.
Fully kosher or a defined portion
Customs around the meal and reception, followed precisely — not decided by us.
Full kosher production
Early sourcing, supplier verification, kitchen plan shared for authority review.
How kosher catering is quoted
Certified ingredients and supervision can affect cost. We give an honest proposal for what the event actually needs, not a generic figure.

Kosher catering FAQs
Is Hauchi Kay a kosher certified catering company?
No. We plan menus around kosher principles with the client and their authority. We do not issue certification. Confirm supervision with your rabbi, mashgiach or agency for each event.
Can you cater when only a few guests keep kosher?
Yes. Individually sealed, pre-certified meals from a verified supplier, alongside standard catering for everyone else, is often the most practical path.
How far in advance should we book in Kenya?
Several months for weddings and large celebrations. Smaller corporate bookings with pre-packed meals can often be arranged on a shorter timeline.
Do you work with our own rabbi or kosher agency?
Yes. Direct contact for menu review, supplier approval and on-site supervision. We cannot substitute for an authority if you have not appointed one.
What areas do you serve?
Nairobi, and elsewhere in Kenya once logistics, sourcing and lead time are confirmed.
Ready to plan kosher catering?
Share guest numbers, how many need kosher meals, your authority if appointed, and the event date. We will put together an honest proposal.
