Hauchi Kay CateringCorporate · Party · Wedding · Events · Private Chef ·Nairobi, Kenya Diabetic-Friendly Catering Kenya
Guests managing sugar intake should never sit out the buffet. Hauchi Kay plans balanced portions, controlled carbohydrates and whole-food Kenyan flavour so every guest eats well without anxiety about the plate.
Not a restrictive diet. Thoughtful meal management.
This is not medical advice. Guests with diabetes should follow their own clinician. Our role is flavourful, labelled, carbohydrate-conscious catering that still tastes Kenyan.
Balanced portions
Starches are pre-measured so ugali, rice or sweet potato do not dominate. Protein and vegetables get the generous share.
Lower added sugar
Ginger, garlic, dhania and citrus build flavour. Sauces simmer for depth instead of syrup shortcuts.
Carbohydrate-conscious
Brown rice, whole-grain ugali blends, sweet potato and legumes first. White rice or chapati in controlled portions with fibre-rich sides.
Building the diabetic-friendly plate
Guests should not be able to tell, by taste alone, which dish was planned with blood sugar in mind.
Protein-forward mains
Grilled chicken, tilapia, lean beef, beans, lentils and green grams. Grilled, roasted, steamed or lightly sautéed — not heavy deep-frying.
Vegetables as centrepiece
Sukuma wiki, spinach, cabbage, kunde, managu, carrots and courgettes, lightly cooked to keep fibre. Whole foods, locally sourced around Nairobi and Athi River.
The courses hosts worry about most
Suitable desserts
Fresh fruit, no-added-sugar yoghurt, modest reduced-sugar bakes and nut-based bites. Elegant portions, not large slices.
Beverage stations
Unsweetened iced tea, citrus or mint infused water, coffee and tea with sugar served separately, fresh juice with no added sugar in controlled cups.
Clear labelling
Lower-sugar markers, starch portion notes, protein and vegetable highlights, allergen cards, and a separate sugar and sweetener station.
Where diabetic-friendly catering is used
Corporate wellness
Board lunches, training, staff days and conferences. Fruit, nuts and unsweetened drinks instead of pastry-and-soda breaks.
Family events
One unified table for birthdays, fundraisers and home-goings. Pilau or nyama choma still headline, with lower-sugar sauces and fruit on the dessert line.
Weddings and mixed lists
Not a separate plate in the corner. One labelled buffet so nobody is singled out, and hosts do not run two kitchens.

Diabetic-friendly catering FAQs
What makes a menu diabetic-friendly?
It balances protein, vegetables and controlled portions of carbohydrate while reducing added sugar. It is built on general healthy-eating and meal-management principles, not a restrictive medical diet.
Can it still include traditional Kenyan dishes?
Yes. Pilau, nyama choma, sukuma wiki and chapati can appear when portions are controlled and sauces are prepared with less added sugar.
Do you provide separate menus for diabetic and non-diabetic guests?
We generally recommend one unified, labelled buffet so every guest eats from the same table while still identifying lower-sugar and carbohydrate-conscious options.
Is this suitable for corporate wellness days?
Yes. It is one of our most requested services for wellness days, board meetings and staff training sessions across Nairobi.
How far in advance should I book?
At least two to three weeks for menu planning and tasting. Shorter timelines depend on guest count and availability.
Do you serve areas outside Nairobi?
Yes. Based in Athi River, we serve Nairobi and surrounding counties. Contact the team to confirm logistics for your venue.
Ready to plan diabetic-friendly catering?
